Before embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Steward-Sciuto obtained a Master in Music Education from the Temple University College of Music, now the Boyer College of Music and Dance, in 1978. She was recognized as a Presidential Scholar for her academic achievement. She had subsequently received certifications in music theory from the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia, and public speaking from Pennsylvania State University. She graduated magna cum laude from the esteemed Philadelphia High School for Girls
While following her passion for music and education, Ms. Steward-Sciuto opened her music studio "Piano For Children" in 1983, which she operated until 2006. She is a certified Orff-Schulwerk music educator and taught elementary music until 2016. After founding the No Place For Hate Choir, she was honored by the Anti-Defamation League of Philadelphia for promoting diversity and harmony through music. Ms. Steward-Sciuto was named Educator of the Year by the Kiwanis Club and was recognized by Building a Better Bensalem (PA) for community service. She was inducted by The Chapel of Four Chaplains into the Legion of Honor.
Outside of her educational endeavors, Ms. Steward-Sciuto has excelled as a classical pianist, actor, singer, and composer. On stage, she performed in "A Doll's House," "The Little Foxes," "The Children's Hour" and "Annie," as well as "Misalliance" and the Kander-Ebb Review "2 by 5." In addition, Ms. Steward-Sciuto was a national spokeswoman for the Gloria Marshall figure salon chain and has numerous commercial and film credits: "Playing for Time," (with Vanessa Redgrave), The Big Blonde (with Sally Kellerman) and "Trading Places" (with Eddie Murphy).
Ms. Steward-Sciuto competed in the Miss America Scholarship Program during the earliest stages of her career, whose scholarship money helped her pursue a master's degree in music education. Presently, Ms. Steward-Sciuto is a contestant in the Ms. Florida Senior America Pageant. She quotes Harriet Tubman, "Only a dreamer can change a dream" and believes in aiming for the stars.
Currently, Ms. Steward-Sciuto is the playwright and composer of a one-woman show, "Flutterby…The Metamorphosis." The production shares her emotional, physical, and spiritual transformation after losing her spouse, artistic partner, and mentor Richard Steward.
Ms. Steward-Sciuto is a devoted supporter of theatre in the Jacksonville area. She is active at Sacred Heart RC Church and is a contributor in Grief Share. She enjoys performing for seniors and she is a member of the Red Hat Society, an international social organization for women aged 50 and beyond. Looking toward the future, Ms. Steward-Sciuto hopes to continue working on her memoir, a journey of faith, tentatively titled "Keep The Lights On."
