As a pulmonary critical care attending, she provides in-patient care, as well as regular critical care on behalf of patients. She also performs pulmonary function tests, provides respirator education and supervises tele-ICUs across six states in the U.S. Having transitioned from an unorthodox career path, Dr. Burza focused on surgery, family medicine and internal medicine before steering her professional endeavors toward pulmonary critical care.
Outside of her field work as a physician, Dr. Burza works as a mentor and clinical assistant professor in the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. When she is not busy at the medical center or teaching in the classroom, she frequently conducts research at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center and presents at various conferences on behalf of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Through NASA, Dr. Burza serves as a liaison for a research project related to an Artemis mission.
Highly educated, Dr. Burza earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the Government Medical College of Jammu and Kashmir in India in 2001, followed by a residency in family medicine at SUNY System Downstate Health Sciences University in 2010 and a second residency in internal medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital in 2013. She also completed a fellowship in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine at SUNY System Downstate Health Sciences University and a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Royal College of Physicians in England. Well qualified in her field, Dr. Burza is board certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine and pulmonary disease through the American Board of Internal Medicine.
