Bolstered by the encouragement of her parents, Ms. Baird pursued a career in computer programming and data processing. Upon earning an undergraduate degree through Shepherd College, she went on to receive a Master of Business from the University of West Virginia. An accomplished manager, Ms. Baird excelled in the field for three decades as a problem manager for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), where she oversaw programs for the U.S. Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines, and wrote "Fee For Service" system once the service's data processing came under DISA.
After 30 years in the field, Ms. Baird eventually retired. While her career has been filled with highlights, she is most proud of a particular online system she wrote. Outside of her career pursuits, however, Ms. Baird is a prolific donor to such organizations as the World Wildlife Fund and the Sierra Club.
Ms. Baird was initially inspired to become involved in her profession due to the influence of her college professors, who praised her talents in the field of computer science. In accounting for her success, she credits her intrinsic confidence and maturity. Within the next five years, Ms. Baird aims to parlay her knowledge of the field into public speaking.
