Marlene L. Herr Burns Recognized by Marquis Who's Who

    OKEECHOBEE, FL, April 06, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marlene L. Herr Burns has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Drawing on more than 40 years of expertise, Ms. Burns enjoyed a fulfilling career in the academic field. Prior to embarking on her professional journey, she pursued an education at Ball State University, from which she obtained a Bachelor of Science, and a Master of Arts in elementary education and teaching in 1972. Outside of her primary responsibilities, Ms. Burns was active as Guardian Ad Litem for the Okeechobee Nineteenth Circuit Court.

Ms. Burns began her career as a teacher at Elwood Community Schools in 1968 and Tipton Community School Corp. in Indiana from 1969 to 1995. In 2013, she served as a second, third and fourth grade remedial reading teacher at South Elementary School in Okeechobee. After her retirement in 2013, she excelled as a volunteer educator at Americorps/BBS. Thus known for her contributions as a civic-minded citizen, Ms. Burns has been a volunteer with such organizations as Okeechobee Presbyterian Food Bank, Okeechobee Community Choir, the Indiana Historical Society, Meals on Wheels, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and has operated as a first person presenter in nursing homes, libraries, state parks and schools. She was chosen Indiana Outstanding Geography Teacher of the Year by GENI. The Indiana Council for Social Studies presented her with the Distinguished Elementary Teacher award for 1994-1995. She participated in NASA's Teacher in Space Project in 1986.

Ms. Burns is best noted for her contributions as an educator, foster parent, and as a guardian ad litem. She is incredibly proud to have authored and published such biographical works as "Kids Kids Kids: My Life Raising 100 Foster Children Over 30 Years" in 2016, and "65 Years With Richard Burns" in 2021. Ms. Burns and her late husband have traveled all over seven continents and the largest rivers on Earth. They have enjoyed skydiving, white water rafting, hang gliding from mountains and living their lives to the fullest together.
