During the course of his career in medicine, Dr. Hardi spent numerous years seeing patients in his private practice, later as part of the Metropolitan Gastroenterology Group and Capital Digestive Care in Washington, D.C., before joining his current practice. He also served as the medical director and principal investigator of Chevy Chase Clinical Research between 1996 and 2018. An expert in general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel diseases, colon cancer screenings, and irritable bowel syndrome, he has notably served as a principal investigator for over 350 gastroenterology clinical trials. Due to his interest in inflammatory bowel disease, Dr. Hardi also served three years as a national board member of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
An equally successful educator, Dr. Hardi first taught as an assistant professor of genetics at Eotvos University of Science in Budapest, Hungary. He subsequently became a clinical associate professor of medicine at George Washington University Medical School and clinical assistant professor at Georgetown University Medical School. Aligning himself as a member of multiple industry-related organizations in support of his career, Dr. Hardi serves as a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and a fellow, board member and past president of the Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research.
Bearing a rich educational background, Dr. Hardi earned a Doctor of Medicine, summa cum laude, at Semmelweis University Medical School in Budapest in 1972. Following this accomplishment, he completed postgraduate training in biochemistry and genetics, a postdoctoral fellowship at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo, New York, and clinical training in internal medicine in both Budapest and at Hanover University Medical School in Hanover, Germany. Additional educational pursuits to Dr. Hardi's credit include the completion of a clinical fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and a second fellowship in gastroenterology at Cornell University Medical School.
Throughout the course of her career, Dr. Hardi has received numerous awards from the national board of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. He has also been recognized as the Best Doctor of Washington by the Washingtonian Magazine and has been listed multiple times in Best Gastrointestinal Doctors of America. Looking toward the future, Dr. Hardi anticipates receiving a Golden Diploma for having graduated from medical school 50 years ago.
