UncleDan Firehawk-Cogan Taylor Celebrated for Dedication to Firearms Training and Safety

Mr. Taylor channels years of varied experience into his present work as Head of Security and Chief Instructor for Tactical Masters Company.

HILLSBORO, OR, April 12, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dan Taylor has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

From an early age Mr. Taylor enjoyed shooting with his father, and while attending Laurelhurst Grade School in Portland, Oregon, he joined Boy Scouts of America Troop 22 where he had the opportunity to earn his Marksmanship Merit Badge, and Mile Swim and Scout Lifeguard awards at Spirit Lake Scout Camp near Mt. St. Helens, He became an Eagle Scout, German interpreter, troop Bugler, and was chosen to attend National Instructor Training at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico on a scholarship from the Sears Foundation. Subsequently, he was on the leadership team for local instructor training that was held in Portland.

During his high school years the family moved to the country, and Mr. Taylor became a three sport letter man who held his school record in the discus throw, all while helping to raise horses, chickens, pigs, cows, sheep, and dogs on the family farm. Some weekends they would head for their beach house on the Oregon coast, where they kept their Jeep and boat, and go Dory fishing right out over the surf at Pacific City by Cape Kiwanda. After attending Oregon Safe Hunter classes he joined his dad and his brother on regular hunting trips for deer and elk in addition to keeping an eye out for local predators. The farm was also home to their warehouse pallet production business where Mr. Taylor and his brother were expected to spend most of their spare time helping out.

After high school Mr. Taylor spent the summer of '69 fighting fires for the Oregon Department of Forestry before enrolling at Oregon State University in the fall, where he became a member of Delta Chi fraternity. A few months later Uncle Sam came calling and Mr. Taylor joined the U.S. Navy as an Electronics Technician, and after receiving his discharge he spent the next eight years as an auto parts procurement specialist for a variety of firms, attended college part time on the G.I. Bill, and occasionally worked as a security guard.

One of his security assignments was as a roving armed guard at the new Portland Federal Building, which was still under construction, and he was surprised to be asked by the federal policemen if he would like to try out their brand new automated shooting range in the basement of the building. Soon they were friends and the men invited Mr. Taylor to join their rural shooting club that had facilities for shooting pistols, rifles, trap, skeet, and black powder guns.

As years went by Mr. Taylor reentered government employment by way of the U.S. Postal Service, and finished his Associate of Science degree in General Studies while attending night school at Portland Community College. At the post office he became an on the job instructor, assistant supervisor, clerk, dock worker, and the only male on the Women's Advisory Council. In his spare time he decided to join the Coast Guard Auxiliary, which is a volunteer civilian service that assists the Coast Guard in keeping the public safe on the water. Mr. Taylor was soon certified as an Instructor, Vessel Examiner, Crewman, and Vessel Operator, was elected Flotilla Commander and appointed to a District Staff Officer position. He also received the Auxiliary Operational Award (AUXOP) after passing the seven advanced operational classes.

Mr. Taylor also started a DJ business which he called R.U.D.E. Music (Rockin' Uncle Dan Enterprises). He did shows for reunions, birthdays, weddings, parties, and motorcycle rallies, and before long the business had grown to where he was doing live sound shows as full charge stage manager and sound reinforcement technician in addition to his DJ duties. He provided all the stage equipment as well as the labor to set it up and keep it running properly during the show. Some events required music twenty four hours a day. Bands played in the evening and the DJ supplied music the rest of the time. When the bands were on stage it was all hands on deck to run everything, so Mr. Taylor and his wife had to figure in cat naps during the night while taking turns running the DJ equipment.

Mr. Taylor holds life memberships with the National Rifle Association, Disabled American Veterans, Viet Nam Veterans of America, Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, National Postal Mailhandler's Union and Delta Chi Fraternity. He is an honorary member of the National, Oregon, Utah and Florida Sheriff's Associations.

He is currently certified as an Instructor for Home Firearm Safety, Basic Pistol, and is a Range Safety Officer certified by the National Rifle Association, and Firearms instructor by the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification.

Other interesting facts about Mr. Taylor include:

He coached Y.M.C.A. soccer, was a certified soccer referee, and played master's soccer. He competed in master's track and field, throwing the shot put and discus in the Nike World Masters Games in Eugene, Oregon and the first State Games of the United States in St. Louis, MO. He was also a Special Olympics shot put coach.

He is a multi-published freelance photographer and NAUI certified scuba diver who personally designed and contracted his 3300 square foot house. He previously co-owned and operated a commercial steam cleaning business. Mr. Taylor rode his Harley-Davidson 6000 miles to the Harley-Davidson 100th anniversary in Milwaukee, WI, co-founded a motorcycle riding group called the Chinchillas, and converted a 20' race car trailer into a motorcycle shop and started a chopper building business.

Mr. Taylor is immensely proud of his family and all of their honorable and integrious pursuits.
