Reflecting on her experiences as the child of an immigrant, Ms. Onal felt compelled to pursue a career in legal service. After earning a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Delaware in 2012 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Elizabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in 2015, she was admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey. While attending school, Ms. Onal gained valuable expertise in the field through her various internship and externship positions, including as a Legal Intern for the Delaware Department of Justice, a Judicial Intern with the Westchester County Court, a Law Clerk with Tooma & Ozisik, LLP, and a Research Assistant for the Institute of International Commercial Law.

In light of her outstanding performance in law school, she has been honored on numerous occasions, earning the Civil Liberties Winifred Sobie Pasternack in 2015 and a Pace Postgraduate Fellowship in 2016.
Upon graduating, she joined a private law firm in Long Island City, NY as an Associate Attorney, where she worked between the years of 2016 and 2018. Following this period, Ms. Onal also served with another private firm in Washington D.C. Metro Area in a similar role.
Drawing her considerable knowledge, Ms. Onal now excels as an Immigration Litigation Attorney for Frenkel, Hershkowitz & Shafran, LLP in Manhattan, NY handling various complicated matters before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Executive Office of Immigration Review. Ms. Onal mainly represents individuals before immigration agencies and courts in the East Coast States but can represent individuals in all 50 states since the federal law governs the immigration practice across the nation. Ms. Onal's caseload has a wide range of variety (political opinion, religion, sexual orientation, sexual assault, sexual harassment, rape, domestic violence, female genital mutilation, mixed marriage, and so on) since she represents individuals from all over the world.

While her career has been filled with many highlights, Ms. Onal is most proud to have worked with a woman from Pakistan who had suffered domestic violence at the hands of her husband. Through her steadfast dedication, she was able to win this woman's case, which allowed her to become a permanent resident and establish a life in the U.S. She was also gratified to represent a man from Cameroon, who escaped persecution and had been detained in Virginia; he had no money or representation, so she took his case pro bono and won his asylum trial.
