Rod Courtney is planning to release his first book entiitled "The Eight Habits of a Highly Effective Safety Culture" in 2022.

Mr. Courtney has served as a health, safety and environmental (HSE) manager for Ampirical Solutions LLC and Compere Construction in Covington, Louisiana since 2019. An expert in his field, he is responsible for the design, implementation, communication and coordination of all health, safety and environmental programs and management systems for both companies. He also addresses various concerns by regulatory agencies, fellow employees, contractors and customers, ensures that all policies and procedures are up to date and relevant and, among other duties, performs, updates and creates new hazard and risk assessments as needed. Founded in 2006, Ampirical Solutions LLC specializes in providing electrical transmission & distribution engineering services, as well as construction services.
A former entrepreneur, Mr. Courtney established Our Safety Guy LLC in 2013, which he managed for six years. Among other roles, he functioned as a health, safety, security and environmental director for RMT in Madison, Wisconsin, an HSE manager for both Florida Power and Light in Indiantown, and for Siemens Power Generation USA in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Courtney notably began his career in 1994 in public safety as a corrections officer and police officer before transitioning into his current field as a regional HSE manager for United Scaffolding Inc. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1998.
Well regarded for his career accomplishments, Mr. Courtney has delivered speeches before a multitude of professional conferences throughout the U.S. He has also contributed numerous articles to Industrial Safety and Hygiene News. Presently, as he continues to focus more on his writing contributions, he is planning to release his first book in 2022. Titled "The Eight Habits of a Highly Effective Safety Culture," it is an account of his 30 years of success in the industry. Dedicated to his former boss and mentor, the late Tommy Graham of United Scaffolding Inc., Mr. Courtney recounts that Mr. Graham was the first person to give him an opportunity to succeed in the occupational health and safety field. He plans to publish his second book, "Safety Third," in 2023.
After graduating from high school, Mr. Courtney served in the U.S. Army as a combat medic from 1990 to 1998. He also received a diploma in criminal justice and political science with honors from Armstrong Atlantic State University in 1997 and a Bachelor of Science in occupational health and safety from Columbia Southern University in 2001. Mr. Courtney has been certified as a construction site safety technician (CSST) through the National Center for Construction Education and Research, a construction health and safety technician (CHST) through the Board of Safety Professionals, a certified utility safety professional (CUSP) through the Utility Safety and Ops Leadership Network, and a workers compensation legal specialist (WCLS) through the American Education Institute.
To support his career, Mr. Courtney is a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the American Wind Energy Association, and the Utility Safety and Operations Leadership Network. Civically, he was involved with the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as the chairperson in Livingston Parish, Louisiana.
For his tireless service and consistent commitment to the industry, Mr. Courtney received an Achievement Award from the National Safety Council. Since joining Ampirical, the organization was also recognized by the Council with an award for the HSE program that Mr. Courtney wrote and implemented. Furthermore, Ampirical was listed in Inc. 5000's Fastest Growing Companies and, in 2021, was named to America's Safest Companies by EHS Today.
