An expert in sports medicine, Dr. Sievers has been a physician for more than 20 years. To prepare for his career, he earned a Bachelor of Science from Concordia University in 1992 and a Doctor of Medicine from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in 1997. He completed a residency in family medicine at the same academic institution in 2000 and a fellowship in sports medicine at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine in 2001. He is certified in family and sports medicine from the American Board of Family Medicine and was one of the first physicians to be certified in musculoskeletal ultrasound. Dr. Sievers also holds medical licenses in New Mexico, West Virginia and Texas.
Since 2001, Dr. Sievers has excelled as the team physician for Eastern New Mexico University, Clovis High School, and Portales High School, while also serving as the medical director for his own clinic, Sievers Sports Medicine. In his clinical practice, he is responsible for consulting with patients and treating sports and musculoskeletal injuries. He conducts musculoskeletal ultrasounds as well, which is a relatively new procedure in the United States and allows him to perform many diagnostic exams and non-operative therapeutic procedures. In his role with Eastern New Mexico University, Dr. Sievers collaborates with athletic trainers and other staff to care for injured student athletes.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sievers has been dedicated to promoting health and wellness for his patients and serving his community with his medical expertise. He worked as an adjunct faculty member at the University of New Mexico, helping to train future physicians. In recognition of his professional efforts, he was inducted as a distinguished physician at the Athletic Hall of Honors of Eastern New Mexico University in 2016. He was additionally honored with the Golden Apple Medical Teaching Award for his mentorship. In further dedication to his field, Dr. Sievers is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
An All-American pole vaulter himself, Dr. Sievers also utilizes his track and field expertise by volunteering with the coaches at Portales High School and Eastern New Mexico University by coaching the pole vaulters. Due to his experience as an athlete with injuries, he is passionate about helping injured athletes. Prior to starting his own clinic, he refined his skills in two different hospitals, but became discouraged by administrative constraints that prevented him from providing the best possible care for his patients. He decided to establish a private practice to ensure he could make patient centered decisions. Dr. Sievers plans to continue growing his practice, intending to employ a physician assistant and recruit an orthopedic surgeon to increase high quality health care for the local communities.
