After immigrating to the United States in 1997, he undertook another residency in internal medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital and a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at Bridgeport Hospital. Well qualified in his field, Dr. Smina is board certified in pulmonary, sleep and internal medicine and holds a medical license in New York.
Dr. Smina began his career as a pulmonologist for St. Barnabas Hospital in 2002, and has served as a pulmonologist for the Phelps Hospital of Northwell Health since 2019. In this capacity, he provides compassionate care for patients with lung diseases, while educating his junior colleagues in hospital procedures. In recognition of his dedicated mentorship, Dr. Smina has received the Teacher of the Year Award three times from Saint Barnabas Hospital and was honored with a Teaching Award from Phelps Hospital in 2022.
Passionate about both learning and teaching, Dr. Smina credits his success to his strong commitment to helping his own family improve their health. He originally became a doctor to continue the legacy of his mother, who found success as a doctor in her own right.
