John Francis Torreano has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

NEW YORK, NY, April 28, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John Francis Torreano has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

For more than 60 years, Mr. Torreano has distinguished himself as an American artist maintaining a vital presence in the New York art community since 1968. Renowned for his contributions, he is best known for his unique ability to create the illusion of movement in his artworks with the use of faceted gems. They have served as "star" references or "wounds," depending on his aesthetic purpose. However, their primary use has been to affirm the viewer's uniqueness by reflecting each person's particular location, to an artwork, in space and time. From early on he has looked to the cosmos for inspiration, using imagery gleaned from early telescopic photography and later from the Hubble telescope. In addition to painting and sculpture, Mr. Torreano has explored many other means of expression: photography, hand-blown glass, furniture, and comedic performance.

Well regarded in his field, Mr. Torreano has shown work in numerous museums throughout the U.S. and abroad: Parrish Art Museum, Watermill, NY, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Boulder, CO, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art in Stamford, Connecticut, the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C., Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL, Grand Rapids Museum of Art, Grand Rapids, MI, Neuberger Museum, Purchase, NY, New Museum, New York, NY, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis, IN, Tang Museum of Art, Saratoga, NY, Museum of Glass, Tacoma, WA, Laforet Museum, Harajuku, Japan, Museo Ettore Fico, Turin, IT, Palazzo Reale, Milan, IT, Corso Roma Foundation, Villa Rufolo, Ravelle, IT. In 2021 at FIAC-Hours Les Murs, Jardin Des Tuileries-Louvre, Paris, France, he exhibited his "Giant Gem."

In 1969 he was included in the Whitney Annual Exhibition of American Art with a painting titled "TV Bulge." This very large picture, foretold his future use of outer-space imagery. Mr. Torreano has also had extensive one-person gallery exhibitions, most recently at Thomas Brambilla Gallery, Bergamo, IT, Keyes Art, Sag Harbor, NY, and Hill Gallery, Birmingham, NY.

Mr. Torreano was born in Flint, Michigan. He received an Associate in Arts degree from Flint Community Junior College, Flint, MI, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI (1963) and completed his Master of Fine Arts at Ohio State University (1967).
