Drawing on more than a decade of expertise, Ms. Malish's decision to pursue a career in her field stems from the loss of her younger sister, Mary-Mary Kopta, who lost her life to drugs, alcohol and mental health issues. She is also a recovering alcoholic who has been personally abstaining from alcohol for the past 13 years. Working alongside her husband Kris, a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard who oversees the ranch's safety plan compliance, her goal is to continue providing superior services to patients. The Windmill Wellness Ranch currently maintains an approximate success rate of 86% versus the national average of 4%.
Ms. Malish initially worked for Starlite Recovery Center between 2012 and 2016 as an adult program coordinator and director of counseling services. She was subsequently hired by the Soba Recovery Center as an executive director from 2015 to 2016 and chief operating officer between 2016 and 2018. Prior to establishing her wellness ranch, Ms. Malish notably managed 12 substance abuse centers across three different states.
Affiliated with several local organizations in support of her community, Ms. Malish was associated with Operation Blue Santa, for which she served as a coordinator of volunteers from 2004 to 2008. She also volunteered for the American Cancer Society in various capacities between 2005 and 2015 and is a member and former coordinator for the New Braunfels Downtown Association. Additionally, Ms. Malish has held several sponsorships for Brain Frequency® LLC and Windmill Wellness Ranch to help the less fortunate that could not afford services.
Ms. Malish earned a Bachelor of Art and Bachelor of Science in business administration, management, and operations at Azusa Pacific University in 2003 and a Master of Social Work at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2012. Well-qualified in her field, she holds several licenses, including in repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for depression and as a clinical social worker and supervisor in the state of Texas. Furthermore, Ms. Malish obtained her certification in individual crisis intervention, peer support and other related areas.
To remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. Malish is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. In 2013, she was recognized as the Starlite Leader of the Year by Starlite Recovery Center for her contributions as a program coordinator and director.
