Sandra A. Chamberlain Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Education

Ms. Chamberlain lends decades of varied expertise to her work with Monroe Community College



    ROCHESTER, NY, May 13, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sandra A. Chamberlain has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Driven to help make a positive change in the lives of others, Ms. Chamberlain pursued a career in the field of education. This hunger was driven by teaching English as a Second Language and immigration and naturalization classes at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO where her husband was stationed at the time. In two years, she and her team celebrated the graduation of 600 new military and spousal American citizens. Upon receiving new orders for Kaiserslautern, West Germany she once again volunteered for Army Community Services teaching ESOL classes which in turn took a new turn becoming volunteer supervisor for two-and-a-half years running 17 programs for the smooth transitioning of incoming and outgoing active-duty military and their families. Upon the completion of that tour, she moved to Tooele Army Depot in Tooele, Utah where once again she used her teaching skills working with military families.

Upon her husband's separation from the military and their move to Rochester, NY, Ms. Chamberlain was offered a job at a private school teaching pre-kindergarten. While the children were delightful it became apparent that working with adults was where her gifts excelled. After finishing the academic year, she was offered a job tutoring ESOL students beginning in 1983 at Monroe Community College (MCC). When MCC opened a downtown campus, Ms. Chamberlain volunteered to move to the Damon City Campus and was the only tutor for two years working with students in ESOL, English, psychology, sociology, French, history, geography, geology and biology. She remained in this position until her children were grown. Ms. Chamberlain was then offered a promotion as a technical assistant for the Integrated Learning Center which housed a psychology lab, mathematics lab, writing center, a transitional studies computer lab area where classes could come as a group and a central space where much of the tutoring took place for the next decade and half.

At the end of this journey, Ms. Chamberlain was offered a promotion as a senior technical assistant and earned a Master's Degree from Buffalo State College in Adult Education with an emphasis in Diversity. Seven years ago, she became a concierge for totally online students for Monroe Community College.

Throughout this journey Ms. Chamberlain brought with her a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Wisconsin State University-Eau Claire and upon graduation began a Master's Degree program in Geology at San Jose State College in San Jose, CA along with obtaining a position at the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, CA. With her husband's commissioning as an officer, they traveled the world for 10 years before settling in Rochester, NY.

Ms. Chamberlain aligns herself with the St. Francis de Sales Association, where she has planned national conferences for 25 years, and the New York State Federation of Home Bureaus Inc.

Devoted to those less fortunate, Ms. Chamberlain volunteers with her local church. In a career that has been filled with highlights, she is most proud to have assisted in COVID-19 testing for the last two years, and to have received three Tribune Tributes. Ms. Chamberlain also earned the Scholars' Day Innovation of the Year Award in 2016, and completed STARS training to work with veterans, and Ally Safe Zone Training for her work with the LGBTQIA community.

Ms. Chamberlain achieved a black belt in Tae Kwan Do and is currently testing to achieve her 2nd Dan (2nd gold stripe). She finds it wonderful exercise, and says it supports discipline and activates a different side of her brain.
