Andrew P. Secor, PhD, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Dr. Secor is an associate professor of counselor education for MidAmerica Nazarene University and also works in his private practice.

    SPRING HILL, KS, May 16, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Andrew P. Secor, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An expert in educating and mentoring future mental health professionals, Dr. Secor has dedicated his career to counselor education and providing therapy services. To prepare for his career, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, sociology and criminal justice from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2005. He subsequently obtained a Master of Arts in counseling with a dual emphasis in professional counseling and marriage and family therapy from the aforementioned academic institution in 2007. Dr. Secor later graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in counselor education and supervision with a specialty in forensic mental health counseling from Walden University in 2019.

Licensed as a clinical professional counselor, clinical addiction counselor, clinical marriage and family therapist, and registered as a play therapist and supervisor, Dr. Secor is an associate professor of counselor education for MidAmerica Nazarene University and also works in his private practice. In this capacity, he is in charge of the clinical mental health counseling track within the counseling department of the university, working with students pursuing the mental health profession. He teaches the majority of the clinical mental health counseling specialty courses and supervises students during their clinical training. He also runs the program reviews of the mental health advisory committee while advising within the program and serving on other committees relevant to the field. As part of his commitment to his profession, Dr. Secor is a member of the American Counseling Association, the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors and the Kansas Mental Health Counselors Association, among other professional organizations.

As part of his career, Dr. Secor has authored several works published in the Kansas Counseling Association Quarterly Newsletter, including "Professional counseling and Medicare: An ongoing issue," "The emerging field of teletherapy" and "Mental health and violence." In 2018, he worked with MidAmerica Nazarene University on the taskforce of "Intercultural Engagement in Higher Education." He conducted a dissertation study with Walden University in 2019 titled "Predicting Spiritual and Religious Competence Based on Supervisor Practices and Institutional Attendance" and is currently researching "The Impact of the COVID Crisis on CACREP Counselor Educators: A Phenomenological Approach."

In recognition for his work, Dr. Secor has accepted numerous accolades, beginning with the ASG Legacy of Leadership Award and an American Heritage Award from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2005. He was inducted to the Golden Key International Honor Society in 2016, the Counseling National Honor Society in 2017 and the National Society for Leadership and Success in 2019. He received a grant to attend a leadership conference for counseling professionals and was given the fortunate opportunity to meet with members/personnel of the United State House of Representatives and the Senate to advocate on behalf of professional counselors in the State of Kansas. Dr. Secor was additionally honored with a Kansas Counseling Association Leadership Award and a Robert I. Brower Distinguished Educator Award from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2019. In addition, he was named Kansas Counselor of the Year for 2022 by the Kansas Counseling Association.

Dr. Secor credits his success to his Christian faith in God as well as the support and encouragement he received from his family along the way, especially from his parents, Randy and Judy, his wife, Jennifer, four daughters (Keira, Reaux, Paisley, and Adriana), three siblings (Tabitha, Timothy, and William) and extended family.

He felt a calling to help others during his final mission trip with his church as a high school senior, where, due to an injury, he worked with a younger group of children who grew attached to him during the trip. This experience inspired him to dedicate his life to helping people and he received an opportunity to pursue counseling while attending his undergraduate studies. Committed to improving his own skills and knowledge, he plans to become a full professor while also continuing his research projects and publication. Dr. Secor is also exploring opportunities to be involved in positions with the National Counseling Association or in other administrative roles.
