Christopher John van Leeuwen Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Music Education

Mr. van Leeuwen has found success as the director of vocal music at Hornell High School for over 15 years



In 2010, Christopher John van Leeuwen's select choirs performed back-up vocals with the rock band FOREIGNER on their 1984 hit song I Want to Know What Love Is.

    HORNELL, NY, May 18, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Christopher John van Leeuwen has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. For more than 15 years, Mr. van Leeuwen has thrived as the director of vocal music at Hornell High School in Steuben County, New York. In addition to helping his students hone their vocal skills and musical vocabulary, he teaches a number of courses related to music theory, music history, film music, and introductory basics in the cognitive neuroscience of music. Under Mr. van Leeuwen's leadership, various choral ensembles within the Hornell City School District have participated in competitions across myriad states, such as Massachusetts, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia, and his home state of New York.

Alongside his responsibilities as an educator, Mr. van Leeuwen served as the president of the Steuben County Music Teachers Association as well as the chairperson and coordinator of multiple local performing arts festivals for the New York State School Music Association. A board member for Hornell Community Theater for more than 10 years, Mr. van Leeuwen continues to serve as an actor and vocalist in numerous productions in and around the area. In addition, on numerous occasions Mr. van Leeuwen serves as a guest conductor for various county and regional honors music festivals.

Throughout his career with Hornell High School, Mr. van Leeuwen has been recognized with a number of accolades on behalf of the Theatre Association of New York State. His choral ensembles have additionally earned first place (Gold) honors more than 40 times at various competitions. Mr. van Leeuwen's vocal ensembles have received prestigious performance invitations to the Segerstrom Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Carnegie Hall in New York City, and to Normandy, France for the 73rd anniversary of the D-Day landing.
