Driven by a passion for science and a desire to help others, Dr. Pérez Colón completed pre-medical studies at the University of Puerto Rico before earning a Doctor of Medicine from Ponce Health Sciences University. Following this accomplishment, she finished an internal medicine residency and chief residency at Damas Hospital, and a fellowship in pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine through the San Juan VA Medical Center. Drawing on her considerable expertise, Dr. Pérez Colón presently excels as a physician in private practice and as an associate professor for the Ponce School of Medicine.
In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Pérez Colón aligns herself with the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, Women in Medicine (Ponce) and the Asociación Médica de Puerto Rico. Throughout her career, she has also conducted research through Sociedad de Investigación Científica Inc. and a veteran's hospital in Puerto Rico. For her outstanding achievements, Dr. Pérez Colón has been honored on numerous occasions, earning 1st Prize at the Damas Hospital Scientific Meeting, a scholarship through the University Achievement Academy, a Special Award from the Instituto Nacional de Estadística and the Club Exchange Award.
While her career has been filled with standout moments, Dr. Pérez Colón is most proud to have advocated for a specific patient (who was also a colleague doctor) in 2013. Although she was not the attending physician in the case, she noticed a lapse in care and recommended that the patient be moved to the ICU. Days later, he was taken to intensive care and called her to ask her to save his life. Under her diligent care, he was released from the ICU within a week. Within the coming years, Dr. Pérez Colón aims to continue exerting a positive impact in the lives of others.
