Rose Marie Thompson Recognized by Marquis Who's Who

Mrs. Thompson serves as an expert in funeral home and cremation services.



    SOUTHFIELD, MI, May 23, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rose Marie Thompson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Drawing on over four decades of diverse expertise, Ms. Thompson specializes in funeral home and cremation services.

Before embarking on her professional journey, she was educated at the Wayne State University College of Mortuary Science, earning a degree in mortuary science in 1976.

She continued her academic efforts at the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and sociology in 1978.

Next, she attained a master's degree in naturopathic medicine from the International School of Naturopathy in 1986.

Rose learned under Alma Hutchens Canada, author of Indian Herbology of North America. Which is a study of American, Russian, and Oriental Literature on Indian Medical Botanics of North America.

Committing to her field, Ms. Thompson is a licensed mortician and is active with several industry-related organizations, including the Michigan Selected Morticians Association and the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Epsilon Nu Delta, a mortuary fraternity, and 100 Women in Funeral Service.

Ms. Thompson began her vocation as an educator for the Detroit Public Schools District from 1978 to 1980, while concurrently building a prolific career as a funeral home director and chief executive officer of Thompson Funeral Homes, Inc, 1978. During this time, she worked in many roles at several organizations, including as an administrator and campaign fund director for Michigan State Senator Jackie Vaughn III between 1982 and 1987. Appointed as an advisory board member by Governor Blanchard on the State of Michigan Communities of Economic Excellence program.

Moreover, from 1986 until 1998, she garnered expertise as an assistant and Doctor of Naturopathy at Dr. Bernard G. Matthews' D.C. Centers for Natural Healing. She is a member of the International Society of Natural Paths Life Force Center for natural healing Laymen's League as well as an auxiliary member of the American Black Chiropractic Association.

In her capacity as a funeral director, Ms. Thompson handles the daily operations of two funeral homes. This includes budgeting and administrative work, pre-planning and arranging funerals, directing funerals, embalming, cosmetology, counseling of the bereaved, director of personnel, and advertising. She also provides in-depth apprenticeship programs for newly graduated mortuary students before they earn their licensure.

Among her professional accomplishments, Ms. Thompson is most proud of serving as the youngest second-generation female funeral home director in the state of Michigan since 1976, which was established by her father in 1950 and was passed down to her after his passing.

She is a member of Alpha Kappa Sorority Alpha Rho Omega chapter. She was awarded Businesswomen of the Year from the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women, United Sisterhood of the Wolverine State Baptist Convention, and Boss of the Year from the American Women's Association (Motor City charter Chapter), Who's Who in U.S. Corporate Executives. Outstanding Achievement Award from the State of Michigan, State of Michigan Concurrent Senate Resolution, Resolution from Mayor Carl E. Officer Mayor of East St. Louis as well as the City of Detroit. Well regarded for her contributions to the field, Thompson Funeral Homes has received many awards, including the Best of Detroit Award for eight straight years from the Detroit Award Program and an induction into the Detroit Business Hall of Fame.

Ms. Thompson attributes much of her success to her relationship with her family, who instilled within her the importance of hard work and the generational effort of a successful business. Looking toward the future, she aspires to pass on the family business to her children, Joseph and Edward who serve as the third generation in the profession.
