Edward T. Mannix, PhD, Recognized for Excellence in the Fields of Medicine and Education

Dr. Mannix channels years of experience into his current position as an adjunct professor at Indiana University's School of Public Health

    NASHVILLE, IN, May 26, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Edward T. Mannix, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Supported by nearly 40 years of professional experience in education, medicine and consulting, Dr. Mannix currently volunteers his services as a professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Indiana University's School of Public Health. Earlier in his career, he gained considerable knowledge in research, administrative matters, pulmonary physiology, and medicine in his roles as associate director and director of Indiana University's Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing Laboratory at the National Institute for Fitness & Sport, as associate scientist of medicine and associate professor of physiology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, as a consultant for the Indiana World Skating Academy, and as a research physiologist at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. Later in his career, he continued as a scientist and a medical science liaison for such companies as Genentech, Inc., InterMune, Inc., Endo International and Encysive Pharmaceuticals.

A seasoned expert, Dr. Mannix has also held a number of different roles at the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington and he participated as a member of the National Institute of Health's AIDS Clinical Trials Unit's Wasting Pathogen Study Group. Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, he received a Bachelor of Science in health and physical education from Southern Oregon State College, now known as Southern Oregon University, in 1982, a Master of Science in physical education and sports fitness from Indiana University Bloomington in 1984, and a Doctor of Philosophy in human performance and physiology from the same institution in 1987. Additionally, in 1990, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pulmonary physiology at Indiana University Department of Medicine in Indianapolis.

Known for his scholarly output, Dr. Mannix has contributed to the scientific literature with a number of published manuscripts, including over 25 peer-reviewed papers, three book chapters and more than 60 abstracts, which he presented at national and international scientific congresses. To remain aware of developments affecting his field, he has aligned himself with the American College of Sports Medicine, The American Thoracic Society, the Indiana Thoracic Society, the Central Society for Clinical Research, and the American College of Chest Physicians.

To commemorate his accomplishments, Dr. Mannix won the Lyon C. Mulling Academic Scholarship Award from Southern Oregon State College, he received fellowship status from the American College of Sports Medicine and he has been listed in Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare. In a career filled with highlights, he is most proud of being the first author on "Modulation of ATP production by oxygen in obstructive lung disease as assessed by 31P-MRS," which was featured in the Journal of Applied Physiology. Looking toward the future, Dr. Mannix intends to continue publishing papers and working on projects assigned to him through his role as an adjunct professor at Indiana University's School of Public Health.
