After earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing Management from the University of Southern California in 1964, and after playing rugby there, Mr. Sanderson began his business career in the insurance industry, where he remained active for three years. Following this, from 1967 to the present time, Mr. Sanderson has developed real estate throughout the western United States, primarily in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Hawaii and Texas and wind farms in Ireland. While maintaining his development businesses in the United States, he headed up his company's international development efforts in Southeast Asia, developing resort hotels from the mid 1980s through the millennium. During this time he was the Managing Partner of Sanderson and Knutson Fruit Company in Washington State, which developed into one of the largest apple growing, packing and marketing agri businesses in the United States, while maintaining his Washington 4,000 acre wheat ranch and cattle ranch, one of his favorite hobbies.
While this professional journey has been filled with highlights, he is most proud of his foray into the food production industry innovation opening up new markets for the apple industry with his use of shrink wrapped apples, Cryovac developing the shrink wrap product, and Southland, owner of 4,500 7-11 convenience stores, United Airlines, Marriott Hotels, and others buying the shrink wrapped apple product.
Outside of his primary career endeavors, Mr. Sanderson has dedicated himself to the Young Men's Christian Association and his local chapter of Rotary International. Mr. Sanderson is a devoted husband to his wife Vicky and father of his children, Kristin, Amy, Karen, Stephanie, Sandy and Michael and grandchildren.
In accounting for his success, Mr. Sanderson credits his hard working demeanor, as well as his propensity for following the golden rule. Looking toward the future, he aims to expand the scope of his company to the point where they can handle between 15 and 20 projects simultaneously.
