Dr. Cheryl L. Pruitt Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Education

    NASHVILLE, TN, June 06, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Cheryl L. Pruitt has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A seasoned researcher and social justice advocate, Dr. Pruitt excels as a student-teacher supervisor for the School of Education and Counseling at Purdue University, co-founder of the National African American Literacy Institute and as president of VOICESpeaks for Equitable Educational Change. Prior to obtaining her current roles, she worked for Learning Point Associates as an educational consultant and senior educational program associate for various locations between 2002 and 2005.

Over the years, Dr. Pruitt has also gained valuable expertise in the fields of education and science as a superintendent, assistant superintendent, principal, assistant principal and teacher for the Gary Community School Corporation, Proviso Township High Schools District 209 and the Bethune Early Childhood Development Center. Supported by her considerable scientific knowledge, she also served as a chemist for Coors Brewing Company, a certifying scientist for Roche Biomedical Laboratories and as a senior research technologist for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Dr. Pruitt first sought an education at Rust College where she earned a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry in 1984. She continued her education at the University of Memphis, attaining a Master of Arts in teaching in in 1999. To further her expertise, Dr. Pruitt obtained a Doctor of Education in instruction and curriculum leadership, and instructional design and technology from the same institution in 2009. She is also a licensed school principal, superintendent, administrator and curriculum director and instructor. Outside of her main career path, she aligns herself with Links Incorporated, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, the NAACP, the Northwest Indiana Project Rebuild Foundation and as a contributing member of the board of directors for the Methodist Hospital of Northwest Indiana.

Dr. Pruitt has achieved much throughout her notable career, including an invitation to the White House regarding restorative justice. She has also helped to transform policy, health care and education systems for an equitable humanity. Additionally, she increased literacy scores and graduation rates while at Gary Community Schools, participated in the 2015 White House convening on supportive school climate and discipline and served as a leader and moderator for a series of U.S. Virgin Islands data retreats. To commemorate her accomplishments, she earned the Bead Town Innovation Award through the Northwest Indiana Society of Innovators, the Distinguished Educator Award via Phi Delta Kappa and School Educator of the Year through One Church One School. In a career filled with highlights, she is most proud of helping to decrease the "School to Prison Pipeline" and increase graduation rates during her years as an educator. Looking toward the future, Dr. Pruitt intends to foster the growth of her organizations and share the lessons she has learned with others.
