A dedicated leader in her field, Ms. Velarde has been an attorney for more than 10 years. Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, she earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Rutgers University in 2006 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Massachusetts School of Law in 2012. While pursuing her education, she underwent an internship for the Office of U.S. Senator Robert Menendez in 2005 and served as a legal secretary for Carbone Law Firm PC from 2004 to 2006. Following these roles, she was an administrative assistant for M&M Bail Bonds in 2006 until becoming a legal secretary for the Diktas Schandler and Gillen Law Firm in 2008. The next year, she worked in the same role for Lang, Xifaras and Bullard until 2011, subsequently working as an assistant for South Coastal Counties Legal Services in 2011.
After graduating from law school, Ms. Velarde started working with the New American Integration Program at AmeriCorps in 2011 until becoming a legal assistant for the Law Office of George A. Pliakas. Since 2013, she has been an attorney for her own firm, the Law Office of Jennifer Velarde. In this capacity, she handles cases in immigration law, family law and estate planning. To remain aware of developments affecting her field, she is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association. Additionally, she serves as a board member for the Immigrants' Assistance Center.
To commemorate her accomplishments, Ms. Velarde was acknowledged by the Professional Organization of Women of Excellence Recognized in 2021. Looking toward the future, she plans to expand her firm, enabling her to do more volunteer and pro bono work for her community. She also intends to spend time writing books about her experiences in the field.
