HAMBURG, NY, June 03, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Susan K. Sharp has been included in Marquis Who's Who. After a long and successful career in the military that spanned more than two decades, Ms. Sharp began working for the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (NYSDOCCS) in 1994. Prior to her retirement, she spent the latter portion of her career as an inmate grievance supervisor. In this capacity, Ms. Sharp was responsible for overseeing three inmates that worked in her office, collaborating with officers and administrators, and playing a key role in listening to and processing complaints of inmates.
Ms. Sharp found great satisfaction working in corrections. Due to her educational background and experience in the military, she did not have to train for the position. After passing the state examinations, she was hired immediately. During her tenure, Ms. Sharp made improvements in the field, including a check and balance sheet that she was able to make more user-friendly.
Crediting her extensive military training to her success at the NYSDOCC, Ms. Sharp was notably stationed in various parts of the country before retiring as a sergeant first class. As a part of her responsibilities, she oversaw a personnel department, which included filling out and submitting annual progress reports of the non-commissioner officers with a high level of proficiency. She also taught in the military as course manager for those soldiers who needed a military occupation specialty, as well as those soldiers who needed basic and/or advanced non-commissioned officers' courses.
Civically, Ms. Sharp has been involved with numerous nonprofits and health-related organizations. Among them, she is active with the Disabled American Veterans National Service Foundation, the National First Responders Fund, the Disabled American Veterans, the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals International.
Ms. Sharp initially studied at Erie Community College in Hamburg, New York. She subsequently earned a bachelor's and master's degree in criminal justice at the University of Phoenix in 2010 and 2012, respectively, and plans to pursue a doctorate degree in the near future with the assistance of an academic scholarship. Additionally, Ms. Sharp is a certified notary public.
To remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. Sharp is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. For her contributions to the U.S. military, she has been decorated with two U.S. Army Commendation Medals, three U.S. Army Achievement Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, a U.S. Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and an Iraq Campaign Medal. Ms. Sharp has also been honored with a Global War on Terrorism Award.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Sharp plans to return to college. Her goal is to acquire a position in academia on a part-time basis so that she can share her wisdom with those pursuing a career in a similar field.
