An accomplished listee, Dr. Thorman celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Dr. Thorman has been recognized as an expert in geology and a consulting geologist as the owner and president of Chuck Thorman Geological Survey International Inc. (CTGS) since 1995. In this capacity, he consults for exploration and mining companies of all sizes in the U.S., Brazil, Liberia, and other countries. Since transitioning into consulting, he also served as a consulting geologist for a joint venture company on an oil shale project in eastern Utah between 2008 and 2011.

Having more than 60 years of experience as a professional geologist, Dr. Thorman is the former executive vice president of exploration for Amerix Precious Metals Corporation (formerly New Bullet Group), a Canadian listed public minerals exploration company. He is also a former research geologist and manager for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). During his tenure with the USGS, he worked throughout Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Oklahoma and abroad in Brazil and Liberia. Previously, Dr. Thorman led the geology department and taught as an associate professor of geology at Olympic Community College and was a visiting assistant professor of structural geology at the University of Oregon in Eugene. In addition, Dr. Thorman was as an exploration geologist for Humble Oil & Refining Company in the Basin & Range and the Ardmore-Anadarko Basin.

As a seasoned researcher, he co-authored more than 150 scientific publications on the geology and mineral resources of the U.S., Brazil, and Liberia during his 51 years of association with the USGS. Dr. Thorman also co-authored a report with Dr. Karin Hoal, of the Colorado School of Mines, in 2006 for the United Nations (UN) Kimberley Process Committee regarding the potential diamond production that could be expected from Liberia upon lifting UN sanctions.

Reflecting on his accomplishments, Dr. Thorman is most proud to have taught geologists of all ages and backgrounds. He also had the opportunity to live in Liberia as a member of the USGS minerals assessment team, where he mapped the final quadrangle during the final year of the program in 1971 and 1972. Moreover, Dr. Thorman resided in Brazil as a member of the USGS team from 1972 to 1974 and provided training and mineral resource assessment methodology to the newly established Brazilian Geological Survey (CPRM) from 1972 to 1974.

Dr. Thorman became inspired to pursue a career in geology by his grandfather, George Hadley, who was a wildcatter in the petroleum industry. Responsible for drilling the first well that discovered the biggest onshore, post-World War II oil field in California, his grandfather's contributions were highlighted in a 1949 edition of The Saturday Evening Post. After graduating from high school, Dr. Thorman attended the University of Redlands, where he acquired a Bachelor of Science in geology cum laude in 1958. He received a Master of Science in 1960 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1962, both in geology, from the University of Washington. Additionally, Dr. Thorman is a Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) with the American Institute of Professional Geologists since 2004.

Dr. Thorman is a respected member of the Society of Economic Geologists, the American Institute of Professional Geologists, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Geological Society of Nevada, and the Denver Regional Exploration Geologists Society (DREGS). As a recognition of his professional accomplishments, he was the 2015 DREGS Speaker of the Year Medalist.
