CARTHAGE, MO, June 10, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Anne Marie B. Hunter, PhD, RDN, LD, FADA, FAND, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Driven to become a doctor since her youth, Dr. Hunter earned a bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition with a minor in theology and philosophy from the College of St. Elizabeth. Upon completion of her Dietetic Internship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Cornell Weill Medical Center she worked as a clinical dietitian in private and semi-private medicine. During the 1970s, she furthered her clinical expertise in the field at Boston City Hospital for Boston University's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Harvard Medical Service. At Mercy Hospital in Orlando, Florida, she served in a dual role as the clinical dietitian and as assistant director of the Dietary Department. From 1975-1980 she served as the clinical nutritionist at the Missouri State Chest Hospital and also completed her Master of Science degree in nutrition and dietetics at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Between 1981 and 2008, she also gained valuable expertise in various roles at St. John's Regional Medical Center principally creating a new department of clinical nutrition and serving as the department director. Furthering her knowledge in the field, she attained a Doctor of Philosophy through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2009. Since 2009 she has been a tenure tract faculty member of the Biomedical Sciences Department at Missouri State University where she is currently an Associate Professor.
Drawing on years of practiced expertise, Dr. Hunter serves today in a variety of roles. At Missouri State University, she is a committee member for the Dietetics Advisory Committee, the Curricula Committee, the Graduate Studies Committee, the Personnel Committee and the Departmental Scholarship Committee, which she chairs. She is also an appointed graduate research faculty member and a certified master adviser. Outside of her main career path, she has served as a consultant dietitian for St. Luke's Nursing Center.
To remain aware of developments affecting her field, Dr. Hunter aligns herself with the Missouri Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Southwest Missouri Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Known for her scholarly output, she has contributed to numerous publications, including the American Review of Respiratory Disease, the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Topics in Clinical Nutrition and Nutrition in Clinical Practice.
In a career filled with highlights, Dr. Hunter is most proud of her involvement in her elected and appointed positions in professional organizations including serving on the Council on Future Practice for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Looking toward the future, Dr. Hunter aims to continue working on emerging changes in her career, which currently includes the use of simulation to prepare future dietitians practicing medical nutrition therapy.
