Excelling in this capacity, Mr. Rappaport formerly garnered expertise as the original founder and managing partner of Biomass One between 1989 and 1997 and subsequently as a limited partner for the organization.
Among Mr. Rappaport's many accomplishments in his field, he notes his contributions to the hybrid energy system and his subsequent patent for a geothermal-solar hybrid power generating system as being his most notable achievements. He was also honored to serve as an invited speaker at The Planet Conference in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2007 on the topic of sustainability. As one of just 200 individuals throughout the world to attend, Mr. Rappaport's speech, of the 14 solutions given, focused on utilizing biomass as a basis for carbon sequestration, sustainable power, cogeneration and instances of diversity in that area. He also had the opportunity to attend the 2016 Hello Tomorrow Global Summit in Paris.
In 2021, Mr. Rappaport released his first book, titled "On the Verge of Tomorrow." The book teaches readers about the various forms of renewable technologies that are available to the world but are still relatively unfamiliar.
As a part of his established commitments to his field, Mr. Rappaport founded the Renewable Energy Scholarship Fund. Mr. Rappaport has also been active locally as a member of the Clackamas Service Center in Clackamas County, Oregon, a nonprofit community center that provides food and other essentials, and as the chair of the Clackamas County Democrats.
Mr. Rappaport originally developed a passion for his industry from his father, who took him to visit a nuclear facility in Princeton, New Jersey, when he was young. Once he entered high school, he became inspired by his physics teacher who arranged for him to tour the nuclear research laboratory at the University of California at Berkeley, where he was allowed to fire a neutron into the cloud chamber that released sub atomic particles. After graduating, Mr. Rappaport pursued an education at California State University in East Bay where he studied mathematics, physics and engineering between 1964 and 1969.
To remain aware of developments affecting his field, Mr. Rappaport is active as a member of the Climate Reality Leadership Corps. To commemorate his accomplishments, Mr. Rappaport's power patent concept was featured on the cover of Power Engineering in 2016, which is a monthly magazine devoted to those in the power engineering and power generation industries.
