Lawrence E. McPhail Recognized for Excellence in Nonprofit Service

Mr. McPhail has dedicated his entire life to working with EMTs and EMS organizations

    SUSSEX, NJ, June 16, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lawrence E. McPhail is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are chosen from among a pool of the most prominent professionals and are selected on the basis of current reference value. Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to Lawrence D. McPhail and Pamela M. Wakeling, Mr. McPhail graduated from Lenape Valley Regional High School in Stanhope, New Jersey in 1981. Shortly thereafter, he began his career as a volunteer emergency medical technician with the Sparta Ambulance Service Inc. in 1983, eventually rising in the ranks to the chief executive officer and captain before departing in 2009. While studying toward a Bachelor of Science in management science at Southern Methodist University in Dallas — which he obtained in 1988 — Mr. McPhail worked as the vice president of sales and marketing and a software engineer for the Westech Corporation in 1987.

Remaining with Westech until 2000, Mr. McPhail further flourished with Butler International Inc. as part of the CitiGroup global help desk for a brief period in 2001 before accepting the position of CCE coordinator of technology at Sussex County Community College later that same year. He was active with the aforementioned college until 2003 while additionally serving as the Cisco regional academy coordinator. He subsequently excelled as a network engineer and technical support manager at Tellurian Networks between 2003 and 2008 as well as a system administration analyst for Dell from 2008 to 2010. Mr. McPhailhas found much success as a senior systems engineer with Atlantic Technology Systems Inc. between 2010 and 2019 and the president of Sussex Tech PTA from 2014 to 2019.

Since 2017, Mr. McPhail has thrived as the president, the chairman of the board of trustees and an emergency medical technician with the Glenwood Pochuck Volunteer Ambulance Corps. His career has been driven by a desire to build and fix things, including not only the technical aspects of engineering, but also in regards to human systems such as volunteering systems, education systems and religious systems. Beginning his career as an EMT after the death of a childhood friend, Mr. McPhail later earned positions with various boards and organizations, including the National Association of EMTs, the National Association of EMS Physicians, the American Society of Association Executives, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the National Systems Contractors Association.

Recruited as a technology consultant with Priority IT LLC in 2019, Mr. McPhail is additionally appointed as the executive director of the New Nonprofit Institute, with which he maintains the history of volunteer emergency medical service workers through the NJEMS Project. Looking toward the future, he hopes to expand and further cement the importance of the NJEMS Project. Also in 2019, he began working as a travel adviser for First Response Travel LLC and Cruise Planners, a travel agency for first responders, and became affiliated with the Cruise Line Industry Association. In 2020, Mr. McPhail published "Dream Jobs: Getting Started as a Travel Photographer" as a result of this work.

Standing out in his field for his emphasis on continued learning, Mr. McPhail has received a number of certificates and licenses to complement his degree over the years. He recently completed a model-based systems engineering certificate in the architecture of complex systems through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's xPRO program in 2020 and is projected to obtain a Master of Business Administration from the University of the People in California in 2021. Furthermore, Mr. McPhail is developing a leadership course designed to help nonprofit executives cultivate the best possible leadership qualities.
