Daniel S. Guy Recognized for Excellence in Legal Education

Mr. Guy excelled for more than five years as the dean of the Claude W. Pettit College of Law at Ohio Northern University



    WILLOUGHBY, OH, June 16, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Daniel S. Guy is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. Holding considerable expertise in eminent domain, Mr. Guy entered the field of law out of a desire to help bring justice to the world. Earning a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1949, he graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Ohio Northern University. Subsequently, he was licensed to practice law by the Ohio State Bar in 1952. Following this accomplishment, he completed two years of service in the U.S. Army before obtained a Master of Laws from the University of Michigan in 1956. Beginning his career in his sole practice in Canton, Ohio, Mr. Guy worked as an assistant attorney general for the state of Ohio from 1957 to 1958.

In 1959, Mr. Guy joined the Claude W. Pettit College of Law at Ohio Northern University as an assistant professor of law. Pursuing a congressional fellowship in Washington, D.C., from 1961 to 1962, he further flourished as an associate professor at Ohio Northern University from 1962 to 1965, at which point he accepted the position of a professor. During this time, Mr. Guy was appointed as a fellow of the Institute of Social Science Methods in Legal Education in Denver in 1967.

Notably, Mr. Guy concluded his academic efforts with a Doctor of Juridical Science from the University of Michigan in 1970. From 1973 to 1977, he served as a professor at the School of Law at the University of North Dakota before returning to Ohio Northern University, with which he has excelled as a professor since 1977. Mr. Guy has also flourished as the dean of the Pettit College of Law from 1978 to 1984, which he cites as a highlight of his career.

Alongside his primary responsibilities, Mr. Guy has contributed his skills to a number of other professional endeavors as well. A regular author of articles for professional journals, he is notable for writing "State Highway Condemnation Procedures" in 1970. He was additionally active as the staff director of the crime prevention task force for the North Dakota Criminal Justice Committee from 1974 to 1975. In an effort to remain up-to-date with developments in his field, he maintains his professional affiliation with the American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the American Judicature Society and the Order of the Coif. Mr. Guy's avocational memberships include Kiwanis International, the Masons and the Ohio Symphony Board in Lima.

For excellence throughout his endeavors, Mr. Guy has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades. Inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society, he was presented with an Army of Occupation Medal and a National Defense Service Medal from the U.S. Army for his contributions to the military. Recognized with an honorary Doctor of Law by Ohio Northern University, he has also accepted the prestigious Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. In light of all his accomplishments, Mr. Guy was previously featured in the fourth edition of Who's Who in American Law.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, to Ralph Julian Guy and Mary Elizabeth Broyles, Mr. Guy dedicated many happy years of marriage to his late wife, Eleanor Bryenton. Together, they were the proud parents of two children, Stanley and Sharon, and grandparents to two delightful grandchildren. Mr. Guy cites marrying and having a wonderful family as the most important and gratifying aspect of his life.
