An expert in commercial airplane control systems, Mr. Huynh designed and configured airplanes for more than 42 years. Well qualified in his field, he functioned as an integral part of the research, design, analysis, building and testing of numerous flight control systems and thrust control actuations, working in all facets of airplane configuration and total integration of systems and functions. Prior to embarking upon his private career, Mr. Huynh served honorably in the Viet Nam Air Force from 1972 to 1975 in South Vietnam.
After completing his military service, Mr. Huynh earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1979. Following the conclusion of his academic efforts, he began his career as a design engineer for flight controls for Boeing Commercial Airplane Group in 1979. In 1985 he became a registered professional engineer in the state of Washington. Mr. Huynh went on to become the senior design engineer of flight control for the Bell Helicopter of Bell Textron Inc. in 1985.
In 1987, Mr. Huynh rejoined Boeing Commercial Airplane Group as the principal engineer for flight controls and was promoted to the role of lead engineer for flight controls in 1989. He advanced further to become senior lead engineer in 1991 and, more than a decade later, a full technical fellow in 2007. As part of his dedication to his field, Mr. Huynh maintained his affiliation with the Safety of Flight Review Board and Technology Readiness Assessment at Boeing. He retired from his work in 2021, leaving a legacy of expertise and leadership at Boeing.
Over the course of his career with Boeing, Mr. Huynh was well regarded as a resource within the engineering and scientific communities to develop solutions or handle complex tasks, many of which had no existing procedures with which to work. He developed numerous intellectual properties and patents, including the implementation of many novel designs to meet performance targets while reducing weight, costs and production cycle times. He also conducted troubleshooting for Boeing's aircraft, innovating solutions and repairs as needed throughout aircraft manufacturing. In recognition of his excellent work as an engineer, he was honored with a Special Invention Award four times by Boeing. Mr. Huynh was awarded by SAE International for years of service as Secretary of the SAE A-6A1 Commercial Aircraft Panel and the contribution he has made to A-6 Committee's Success. Mr. Huynh was also presented with the James M. Crawford Executive Standards Committee Outstanding Achievement Award by SAE International.
Although he is now retired, Mr. Huynh intends to leave a legacy by continuing to contribute to society. To wit, he is active in SAE International, the lead organization for educating engineers while developing and advancing the fields of aerospace, commercial vehicles and automotive engineering. He also serves as a mentor in the mobility industry.
