An expert in working with industrial chimneys, Mr. Wessels has been a successful business owner and leader for more than 45 years. Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Ohio State University in 1976 and a Juris Doctor from the John Marshall Law School, now known as the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law. Following these accomplishments, he ultimately decided not to practice law and instead pursue a career in the industrial chimney contracting business.
Mr. Wessels began his career working with King's Row and Peabody Continental-Heine until becoming the owner for Custom Fireplace Company and Union Lightning Protection Installers, which he maintained for 15 years. He subsequently became the president of Oak Park Chimney. During his tenure there, he worked on industrial chimneys and power plant chimneys in every state in the United States except for Alaska. Since 2021, Mr. Wessels rebranded and became the sole stockholder of the company, which he renamed to Interstate Stack and Chimney Services LLC. In this capacity, he conducts chimney inspections, repairs and controls piecemeal demolitions.
Throughout his career, Mr. Wessels is the only contractor in the industry who has never had an injury on a chimney project or had personnel injured during operations. He is also proud to have never received an OSHA citation, which he notes are common to experience in the industry. With developments in drone technology, he and his company are able to inspect chimneys more thoroughly than before, providing their clients with more information and less cost, enabling them to perform their duties more effectively.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Wessels plans to continue to develop his business and establish his legacy in the industry. He also intends to encourage safety in the field, particularly for personnel who work on chimneys by continuing his record.
