Dr. Green has been named among the Top 30 Musical America Professionals of the Year by Musical America.
ENCINO, CA, July 11, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Noreen Green has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Green is the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony (LAJS), a nonprofit organization that she founded alongside her husband more than 25 years ago to promote Jewish culture and heritage, create jobs and serve as a resource for aspiring composers and musicians. Since the symphony began developing its roots in 1994, she and her many musicians have performed at a multitude of different venues throughout Southern California, including performing arts centers, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Wadsworth Theatre in Los Angeles and on numerous college campuses. The LAJS has also performed with several popular groups including the Faithful Central Bible Church Choir and has hosted benefit concerts to support numerous humanitarian organizations.
Dr. Green's most noteworthy achievement since founding her nonprofit has been her very successful and rewarding outreach program in 2004 called A Patchwork of Cultures: Exploring the Sephardic-Latino Connection. Originally funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the education program teaches children in grades three through five in low-income areas throughout Southern California musical concepts along with respect for diversity. The program serves approximately 1,000 students each year in public, private and Jewish day schools throughout Los Angeles, many of whom are LatinX.
Internationally renowned for her expertise, Dr. Green has served as a guest conductor in the U.S., as well as abroad in such countries as Australia and Canada with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Among other accomplishments, Dr. Green notably founded the American Jewish Symphony and the Nowakowsky Chorale and served as the West Coast music director for the David Nowakowsky Foundation. In 2020, Dr. Green was featured in a documentary spotlight series highlighting her life in the Milken Archive of Jewish Music.
Dr. Green's career in the industry began by teaching choir, drama and English at a Catholic high school in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles. She subsequently became an assistant professor at California State University Northridge (CSUN) and conducted the theater department's main stage musicals while she was pursuing her master's degree. Dr. Green simultaneously became the music director for Temple Ramat Zion in Los Angeles. However, it was not until she began participating in a summer music program at the Aspen Music School that she discovered Jewish orchestral music. This enlightening experience led her to create and conduct her own concert of Jewish orchestral music, and it received rave reviews. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Green formed the LAJS.
Born in Los Angeles, Dr. Green developed a passion for music during her childhood. By the age of five, she began taking piano lessons. She also began singing and was fortunate to attend public schools that were enriched with robust music programs. In addition to being elected as the president of her high school choir, Dr. Green began learning how to conduct choir rehearsals and had the opportunity to serve as student music director for one of the school musicals. After graduating, she chose to pursue the arts, achieving a Bachelor of Arts in music education, cum laude, at the Conservatory of Music at University of the Pacific, followed by a Master of Music in choral conducting with distinction at CSUN and a Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Southern California.
To commemorate her accomplishments, Dr. Green has been recognized for her contribution to the arts with a Commendation Award from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. She has also been honored with a Recognition of Contribution from State Assemblyman Bob Blumenfield and Congressman Brad Sherman, and with a Jewish Cultural Star Award and Golda Meir Award. Additionally, Dr. Green has been named among the Top 30 Musical America Professionals of the Year by Musical America, which is recognized as the oldest and most respected American magazine devoted to classical music.
