Drawing on years of professional experience, Dr. Purga presently excels as a non-invasive cardiologist with Capital Cardiology Associates, P.C. (CCA). He sees patients both in the office and cardiac urgent cares, as well as in several local hospitals. In addition, he oversees the reading of outpatient imaging studies, including echocardiograms, SPECTs and PET nuclear stress testing, as well as cardiac CT exams. Furthermore, Dr. Purga manages the performance of inpatient procedures such as temporary venous pacemakers, right-heart cardiac catheterization and trans-esophageal echocardiograms. He serves as director of laboratory services for CCA and as director of non-invasive echocardiography for Samaritan Hospital.
Due to his wide range of knowledge, Dr. Purga's research has been published in peer-reviewed journals in the fields of preventative cardiology, pulmonary hypertension and congestive heart failure, including "Implementation of cholesterol-lowering therapy to reduce cardiovascular risk in persons living with HIV" and "Recent insights into pharmacologic cardiovascular risk reduction in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus."
An expert in his field, Dr. Purga is licensed to practice in New York, certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine and certified in echocardiography through the American Society of Echocardiography. He is a member of the American Medical Association, and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and The American Society of Echocardioaphy.
To commemorate his accomplishments, Dr. Purga has been honored with the David E. Rogers Memorial Research Award from Cornell Medical Center, a Distinguished Sophomore Award through Phi Beta Kappa, the Anthony L.F. Gorman Prize in Physiology from Alpha Omega Alpha and the Theodore L. Biddle, MD Endowed Prize in Cardiology through Albany Medical Center. He has been honored with membership into Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Societies. In a career filled with highlights, he is most proud of making a difference in the field of medicine.
