Hendree E. Jones has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

    CHAPEL HILL, NC, July 13, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hendree E. Jones has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. An expert in substance use disorders, Dr. Jones has been a research scientist and psychologist for more than 25 years. Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from Randolph-Macon College in 1992 and a Master of Arts from the University of Richmond in 1994. To further her expertise, she subsequently attained a Doctor of Philosophy from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1997. Following these accomplishments, she began her career as a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University in the behavioral pharmaceutical research unit, advancing to full professor role in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine during her tenure by the age of 38. Dr. Jones served as the director of the university's Center for Addiction and Pregnancy between 1998 and 2010 and as the program director for Cornerstone at Johns Hopkins University from 2008 until 2013.

Since 2013, Dr. Jones has been a professor, division director and executive director for UNC Horizons at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Passionate about her work, she ensures that she conducts herself with empathy and compassion for her patients while leading her team with gratitude and recognition for their skills.

Dr. Jones is also an adjunct professor of psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an adjunct professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In 2020, she gave a keynote address at the Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association. To remain aware of developments affecting her field, she is a member of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence and the American Society of Addiction Medicine. She was also admitted as a fellow to the American Psychological Association.

To commemorate her accomplishments, Dr. Jones has received numerous awards for her expertise and dedicated work. She received the Young Psychopharmacologist Award in 1999 and was honored with an Early Career Contribution to Science Award by the Maryland Psychological Association in 2005. The same year, she earned the Early Career Contribution to Applied Psychology Award from the American Psychological Association. Similarly, the College on Problems of Drug Dependence presented her with an Early Career Contribution to Science Award in 2008.

In 2012, Dr. Jones was recognized with the Betty Ford Award for making a significant impact on the field of alcohol and drug abuse from the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse. She also earned the National Institute on Drug Abuse's International Research Collaborators Award in 2015. In 2018, she was honored with the Women's Services Champion Award by the National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors and with the Marian W. Fischman Lectureship Award from the College on Problems of Drug Dependence. Most recently, she received the R. Brinkley Smithers Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Society of Addiction Medicine in 2020.

Dr. Jones provides service to the United States government and her field by being appointed to serve on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Advisory Committee for Women's Services and SAMHSA's National Board of Advisors from 2016-2018. Dr. Jones currently serves on two high-level groups, the Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Multi-disciplinary Working Group of the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services National Expert Advisory Group on Substance Exposure in the Mother-Infant Dyad. Throughout the course of her career, she has contributed more than 200 peer-reviewed articles for various professional journals and co-authored the World Health Organization's first guidance document regarding how to identify and treat women who have substance use disorders in 2014, the United Nations Standards for the Treatment of Substance Use Disorders chapters for treating women and children in 2016 and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Clinical guidance for treating pregnant and parenting women with opioid use disorder and their infants in 2018.

Known for her contributions as a civic-minded citizen, Dr. Jones volunteers for local North Carolina organizations including the KIDZU Nest Advisory Committee and fosters dogs in need of homes. Looking toward the future, she intends to continue her professional career as well as her volunteer work, staying open to new possibilities during her distinguished journey.
