Dr. Semon discovered a passion for physics while studying for his bachelor's degree at Colgate University. After graduating from Colgate University, he earned a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in physics at the University of Colorado Boulder in 1973 and 1976, respectively. Throughout his career, Dr. Semon conducted research in the field of physics and served as a professor of physics. In 2017, he earned the distinct title of professor emeritus at Bates College.

A trusted voice in his field, Dr. Semon has been called upon as a presenter and consultant throughout the duration of his career, in addition to having contributed to numerous relevant publications. He has served as a member of the editorial advisory board for the American Journal of Physics and has contributed to the Journal of Mathematical Physics, Physical Review and various other professional publications within the fields of physics, mathematics and engineering. Dr. Semon's areas of expertise are in relativity, quantum mechanics, classical and quantum electrodynamics, forensic accident reconstruction and sports physics. Additionally, he has conducted extensive research on the Aharonov-Bohm effect and has written about a novel interpretation of the electromagnetic vector potential.

Having served as a professor and visiting professor at several colleges for over 30 years, Dr. Semon considers the highlight of his career as having worked with senior thesis students. He has been involved with the National Research Corporation, the American Physical Society, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the American Association of Physics Teachers, the American College of Forensic Examiners and the Society of Woodrow Wilson Fellows. Looking toward the future, Dr. Semon intends to be fully retired while actively following research within the field of physics and evaluating future manuscripts, such as the electrodynamics book he recently reviewed.
