Well-regarded for her contributions to the field, she was nominated as Teacher of the Year on several occasions and honored as Teacher of the Week through the Galveston County Daily News and the Texas City Sun.

Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Jelin earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Sam Houston State University in 1988. To remain aware of developments affecting her field, she aligns herself with the Texas State Teachers Association.
