Driven toward pursuing a career in the medical field, Dr. Majd Oteibi began her medical training by pursuing a degree of Doctor of Medicine in general medicine and surgery from the Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry in 1994. She subsequently completed a clinical internship and pursued a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at King Hussein Medical Center in Amman, Jordan. Then later in her career, she continued her education with a master's degree in health law from the University of California San Diego's Western School of Law in 2013, to bridge the gap between medicine and law in the US and understand the regulatory framework behind the regulations in clinical research. Due to Dr. Oteibi's passion to seek knowledge, she completed her postgraduate Global Scholarly research training in 2019 at Harvard Medical School and completed a Doctor of Health Sciences at Drexel University. Her dissertation topic involves forming a better understanding of the autonomy considerations of people with intellectual disabilities and how to improve their access when it comes to sexual and reproductive care.
Today, Dr. Oteibi serves as the chief executive officer and director of Clinical Research at Validus Institute Inc. In this role since 2021. Her solid medical background and longtime experience allowed her to hold various leadership roles from 2014-2021 in clinical research. Notably, Dr. Oteibi led multiple clinical trials simultaneously, provided oversight to ensure accurate implementation of study designs. She led multiple team projects with great audit results and worked closely with other stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of study protocols and meeting timelines. She was recognized for outstanding leadership roles at all levels, utilizing frequent team meetings, communication, and follow-up to identify at-risk items and action plans to address them, while also providing timely follow-up. Lending her expertise to the educational realm, Dr. Oteibi has also taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in healthcare administration at National University at the School of Community Health in San Diego, CA. since 2020.
Earlier in her career, Dr. Oteibi worked at the California Institute of Renal Research in San Diego from 2010 to 2013. In this post, she managed several clinical studies, recruited study subjects, led clinical trials, managed regulatory submissions and processes and oversight for the execution of studies and audits as well as provided employee hands-on training. She has experience conducting clinical trials in various therapeutic areas.
Finding vast success, Dr. Oteibi was awarded fellow status with the Royal Society of Public Health. She was recognized for conducting high quality research results and won several financial awards. She was also awarded the Teaching Assistant Excellence Award from Drexel University in 2021. Notably, she was the class speaker at the Harvard Medical School Commencement Ceremony in 2019. She attributes her success to her parents, who instilled in her and her sisters the love for education and the importance of being dedicated. They served as great role models for her growing up and even as an adult, having been inspired by their work ethics, dedication, kindness, and generosity.
Among her various achievements, Dr. Oteibi considers her volunteer work as one of the highlights of her career, as she has volunteered in orphanages, refugee camps and senior citizen homes in the United States and overseas, including, Irbid, Sahaab and Amman, Jordan. She credits learning the importance of giving back to her parents who established and ran three private schools in Kuwait, which were sadly lost during the Gulf War in August 1990. Dr. Oteibi hopes for people to know that being an immigrant means shaping yourself into having a new personality in a new place to build a new future. It also means that when people share their diverse experiences and knowledge, stronger communities can be built. She believes her passion for learning and ability to adjust has helped her become the leader she is today. Dr. Oteibi still does pro-bono work to this day.
To remain abreast of her field, Dr. Oteibi maintains affiliation with the American Medical Association, the American Association of Cancer Research, the Society of Clinical Research Associates, the American Academy of Anti-aging Medicine, the American Association for Healthcare Executives, and the National Association for Healthcare Quality. Dr. Oteibi holds multiple additional certifications. Looking ahead, Dr. Oteibi aims to lead a team for clinical trials for patients with mental disabilities.
