Kathryn Reith Blake has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Ms. Blake is recognized for her expertise as a studio artist

Blake set up the papermaking studio at NSCAD and wrote and taught the course for two years, before establishing her own studio business and teaching facility.

KETCH HARBOUR, NS, August 01, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kathryn Reith Blake has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Adept in painting and hand papermaking, Blake has been a successful studio artist for all of her adult life. Inspired by her grandfather, Alexander Fawcett, she began to paint in oils at ten years of age, and studied many different arts media over the course of her career. Her professional life is filled with highlights, but Blake is most proud of consistently striving for originality in her work and ultimately making "something from nothing", using materials that nature freely supplies. Blake earned a Bachelor of Arts at McGill University in 1974 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1977. From 1973 to the present she has been a studio artist; she established Old Harrie's Shed Hand Papermaking in 1978. Her studio is now known as Kathryn Reith Blake Art. To remain aware of developments affecting her field she has been a member of the Canadian Gift and Tableware Association, The International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists, the Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council and Visual Arts Nova Scotia. She is currently a member of The Writers' Union of Canada and the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia.

Blake set up the papermaking studio at NSCAD and wrote and taught the course for two years, before establishing her own studio business and teaching facility. She was featured in the hardcover book "Handmade Paper Today" (ISBN 85331-456) produced in London in 1983. She has presented work numerous times in many media, in solo and group shows in France, Japan, Philippines, New York City, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax.

Her current project is the publication of her first book, "Night Sitter Stories - Close Encounters of a Caregiver." She offers astonishing glimpses of unlikely people that we rarely get to hear from. Blake intends to write more books and to continue painting.
