A third-generation flute player, Ms. Curry was inspired to pursue a career in music due to the influence of her grandfather and mother. Upon earning a Bachelor of Music Education from Delta State University in 2011, she began her career as the Director of Bands for South Pontotoc High School, where she worked for the following two years. Between 2013 and 2019, she gained valuable expertise in the field as an assistant band director for New Albany High School and the Director of Choral Activities for New Albany Middle School. Additionally, over the course of her six years with New Albany, Ms. Curry served as the Bordeaux Winter Guard director and worked as a choreographer, costume designer, and rehearsal assistant for New Albany's annual high school musical.
Driven to expand upon her education, Ms. Curry earned a Master of Music from the University of Mississippi, and is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Mississippi, where she is working toward the completion of a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education. Drawing on years of experience in the field, she presently serves as the Associate Director of Bands for Blue Mountain College. Due to her vast breadth of knowledge, Ms. Curry has contributed to several projects and presentations, including "When a Woman Gets the Blues: An Exploration of Gender, Blues, and the Power of the Female Voice," "The Impact of Procedural and Strategic Practice Instruction on the Independent Practice Behaviors of Middle School Instrumentalists" and "The Development of Effective Post-Instructional Practice Methods in Beginning and Intermediate Instrumentalists: A Review of Literature."
Outside of her work, Ms. Curry aligns herself with the Hillcrest Baptist Church, as well as the honorable societies of Kappa Delta Pi, Mu Phi Epsilon, Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi. Though her career has been filled with highlights, she is most proud to have been selected on two separate occasions to present at the National Association for Music Education's conference regarding the practice procedures of junior high school students and student-teacher-intern relationships within the context of classroom management. Looking toward the future, Ms. Curry aims to complete her doctoral degree and continue serving Blue Mountain College as a music educator and band director.
