After earning a Bachelor of Science in management and accounting from The University of Utah in 1979, Dr. Moyes received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in 1984 and a Doctor of Business Administration from Alliant International University in 1991. For his doctoral dissertation, Dr. Moyes determined the degree of effectiveness (more, average, and less effective) of 218 audit techniques in detecting fraud in financial statements as perceived by external and internal auditors. In his later career, Dr. Moyes determined the degree of effectiveness (more, average and less effective) of 42 red flags in identifying potential fraud in financial statements as perceived by external and internal auditors.
During the early stages of his career, he gained valuable expertise as an accounting professor for such institutions as California Polytechnic State University, Fordham University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In the ensuing years, Dr. Moyes also worked as a professor of accounting at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, from which he retired in 2014. Three years later, he returned to teaching for a short period before retiring again in 2019. Throughout the course of his career, he has written and published 47 accounting articles in academic and practitioner journals and presented papers at 36 regional, national and international conferences. To remain aware of developments affecting his field, Dr. Moyes previously aligned himself with the Internal Audit Association. To commemorate his accomplishments, he was recognized in Cambridge Who's Who in 2010. In a career filled with highlights, he is most proud of being able to conduct research and of teaching students.
