Originally intent on becoming a school coach, Mr. Young quickly found through his studies that he wanted to teach mathematics. Upon earning a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics teacher education from West Liberty University in 1986, he began working as a mathematics teacher and also coached football, track, cross-country and wrestling for the Indian Valley Local School District, where he worked for 14 years. During that time, Mr. Young was an integral part of initiating a Calculus study of Mathematics in which he taught. Mr. Young also started a very successful cross-country program along with being a big part of starting the wrestling program in which he also coached. Mr. Young continued his education by earning a Master's Degree in Mathematics through Miami University in 1990 and then completed his Principal certification in 2006.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Young has gained valuable expertise as a Mathematics Teacher and Administrator with Coshocton City School District, New Philadelphia City Schools, Mapleton Local School District, Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools, ECOESC and Quaker Academies. Mr. Young also served many years in Administration as principal of Mapleton Local School District, Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools, STAR Alternative schools and Belmont County Preschool director. Mr. Young also has served as an adjunct Calculus teacher for North Central State College. Supported by years of professional expertise, he excels today as a secondary mathematics teacher for Quaker Digital Academy.
To commemorate his professional achievements, Mr. Young has been honored many times, earning the Indian Valley Teacher of the Year Award, the Mapleton Teacher of the Year Award, the Coras Principal Leadership Award and the Ohio Middle Level Association's Principal of the Region Award. In a career filled with highlights, he is most proud of the relationships that he has built with his students. Looking toward the future, Mr. Young intends to develop within his organization.
