ROCHESTER, MI, August 12, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Avoki Michel Omekanda, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

For more than a decade, Dr. Omekanda has served as a staff research engineer at the General Motors Global Research & Development Center. With over three decades of engineering experience to his credit, he focuses on design/analysis/control of electric machines, actuators, electromagnetic sensors, robust engineering, acoustics, vibration and computation of electromagnetic fields. Dr. Omekanda holds over 80 patents and was inducted into the Delphi Innovation Hall of Fame in 2006. Since 2010, he has been a staff research engineer for General Motors Global R&D Center. Earlier, he served in the same capacity at GM from 1995 to 1999, Delphi Research Laboratories from 1999 to 2005 and Delphi-Powertrain Systems from 2005 to 2010. Additionally, he was a researcher and assistant professor at Faculté Polytechnique de Mons.

Dr. Omekanda had previously earned an Engineering Diploma, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical engineering from the Faculté Polytechnique de Mons of UMons in Hainaut, Belgium. He also holds a master's degree in development practice from Regis University and a BS in physics from Mohammed V University of Rabat, Morocco. A fellow of the Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Dr. Omekanda has authored and co-authored over 60 international publications in referred journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications and IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine.

In 2005, Dr. Omekanda and his former colleagues at Delphi Powertrain Systems were distinguished as finalists for an Automotive News PACE Award for their work with rotary position sensors. He attributes a great deal of his success to the inspirational nature of his work environment, as well as the availability of critical resources for personal research. Looking toward the future, Dr. Omekanda is playing a central role in the increasing prevalence of electric machines in the transportation industry, while serving as a mentor to his younger IEEE colleagues. He intends to take part in the revolution of vehicle electrification, which proposes to replace the thermal combustion engines by electric machines in the transportation sector, to address the threat of carbon emissions on climate change.
