As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A leader in his profession, Dr. Brewer is distinguished for 11 years in the health care and education fields as an ophthalmologist and LASIK surgeon. He currently serves as the medical director and surgeon at LasikPlus and the chief of ophthalmology at South Texas Veterans Health Care System. Among his many career accomplishments – which include performing more than 15,000 laser refractive surgeries – Dr. Brewer is especially proud of receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of Texas Health Science Center in 2019. The award reflects years of assisting young residents to develop into successful professionals.

Dr. Brewer became interested in his profession early in life, influenced by his father and uncle, who were optometrists. Upon entering medical school, Dr. Brewer originally pursued surgery for several years before pivoting to the field of ophthalmology to assist a greater patient population and secure a more sustainable work-life balance. This choice has proved beneficial now that Dr. Brewer and his wife, Lindsey, have two young children; he enjoys being able to grow and prosper professionally without compromising his ability to spend time with his family.

Dr. Brewer holds a Bachelor of Arts from Baylor University and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Touro University. He completed an internship in surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, coursework in general surgery at the University of California Los Angeles, and a residency in ophthalmology at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Medical Center. He is board certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology and currently holds a Texas State Medical License. From 2016 to 2017, he held a Mississippi State Medical License.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Brewer served as research lab manager for the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the Texas A&M Health Science Center. Additionally, he was a clinical assistant professor at the Tulane University School of Medicine, an adjunct professor at the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and an associate professor at the U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School. He also served as the chief of ophthalmology of the Keesler Medical Center at Keesler Air Force Base, as well as an ophthalmology flight surgeon and general medical officer with the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine.

As an active leader in medical research, Dr. Brewer has co-authored numerous articles and papers. These include "Five-year-old Sequestered Retained Lens Fragment Requiring Keratoplasty," published in PubMed, "A Retrospective Comparison of Three Month Outcomes between 60kHz and 150kHz IntraLase Laser Platforms in Refractive Surgery," for Alamo Research Day, "Role of Stat1 in the Permissive Effect of Interferon-gamma on Fas-induced Apoptosis of Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Cells," which appeared in CHEST, "Activation of Stat1 by IFN-gamma Inhibits Growth of Human Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Cells," also in CHEST, and "IFN-gamma has a Potent Cytostatic Effect via STAT1 Activation on the A549 Human Lung Cancer Cell," for the American Society for Cell Biology.

Dr. Brewer has been recognized numerous times for his contributions to his field. He was included in the 40 Under 40 of Texas Business Leaders list by the San Antonio Business Journal and he received a commendation medal, an achievement medal, and a Top Knife Flight Surgery Award from the U.S. Air Force. Moreover, he received a president's scholarship and heritage scholarship from Baylor University.
