With more than 20 years of experience in networking, engineering and safety compliance, Mr. Cruz is responsible for leading the development and implementation of a site-wide environmental health and safety (EHS) compliance program. He is presently the health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) director for Third Coast Terminals — a position he has held since 2018. In his role, he ensures that the company remains compliant with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency. He manages the risk associated with his firm's operations and adheres to Homeland Security regulations. As part of his position, he collaborates with the health, safety, and security manager, as well as the environmental manager and process safety manager.
Prior to securing his role with Third Coast Terminals, Mr. Cruz was a validation specialist for Bristol-Myers Squibb Manufacturing Co. in 1997, earning several promotions during his tenure until he departed the company as a reliability and maintenance engineer for EHS Support in 2008. After moving to the United States, he was aligned with AcuTech Process Risk Management Consulting Group as an associate consultant engineer before assuming the role of safety engineer for Saint Marks Powder at General Dynamics in 2009. Mr. Cruz was also a process safety management coordinator for INEOS Nitriles, a hydrogen cyanide manufacturing facility in 2011, and was promoted in 2014 to the position of process safety management, safety and quality lead. In 2017, he acted as a process safety management manager for TPC Group.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Mr. Cruz earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the Recinto Universitario de Mayagüez in 1997. He completed all courses toward a manufacturing automation engineering master's degree at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. Mr. Cruz is a member of the Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de Puerto Rico, an institution that supports the professional development of engineers and surveyors in Puerto Rico. Looking to the future, he intends to continue refining his expertise with the goal of becoming a plant manager, an HSSE contractor, or an executive with a prestigious corporation.
