John Gardner Wilder Recognized for Excellence in the Field of Investments

Mr. Wilder retires as a Senior Vice President of Wachovia Securities after 40 years as a financial professional to begin a new career as an author



Mr. Wilder, having a keen interest in 19th century American history, authored two books and several unpublished articles.

    NAPLES, FL, August 16, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John Gardner Wilder has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Upon earning a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Virginia, Mr. Wilder joined the investment firm of Merrill Lynch in 1966 in Columbus, Ohio. 1969, Wilder was one of six out of a field of 36 selected to serve the Institutional investor market. Merrill chose to consolidate institutional offices in 1981, Wilder moved to a regional investment bank, Kemper Securities which ultimately became Wachovia Securities. While at Kemper, he became a registered investment advisor participating in his firm's Professional Investment Manager [PIM] program and joined the national organization IMCA [Investment Management Consultant Association]. IMCA provides continuing education and professional certification to its members. Wilder became a Certified Investment Management Consultant.

Giving back to the community has always been important for Wilder. He joined a group of Columbus' business and professional men whose Conductor's Committee supported the musical director of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Three years after joining he was chosen to lead the group, becoming an ex-officio member of the board of trustees of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Under his term he initiated a summer luncheon concert series on the lawn of the Ohio State house to introduce the symphony to local office workers.

In 1975, Wilder joined the board of the Columbus Cancer Clinic, one of Columbus 'oldest charities founded in 1921. The clinic provides, detection, home care and support to cancer patients from all walks of life. It is part of United Way. During a 30-year board membership, Wilder spent two years as board chairman bringing the National Wellness Community, to the clinic as a new program. Subsequently it was spun off and is currently known as the Cancer Support Community. He spent 11 years on the national board of directors of the Cancer Support Community.

Mr. Wilder, having a keen interest in 19th century American history, authored two books and several unpublished articles. In 2013 he released "The Mover: The Travels of Charles Wilkins in 1838." Wilkins a young Englishman finished his English education to brave a winter crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a packet sailing vessel. Crossing the Allegheny mountains in a snowstorm, Wilkins barley survives a harrowing stagecoach accident on his way to meet family in central Ohio.

"Wagons, Gold and Conflict: Captain Alfred Davenport's Adventures in the Trans Mississippi West," a biography, was released in January 2022, chronicling a 24-year-old traveling with frontiersman James Clyman on the Oregon Trail in 1844. He joined explorer John Charles Fremont in the California Bear Flag rebellion in 1846, managed Fremont's Pinetree Gold Mine in 1860. Joining the Union Army as a captain he served as an Aid-de-Camp to General Fremont in western Virginia in the spring of 1862.

Wilder's home is Naples, Florida. He spends summer along the shores of Lake Champlain in New York near the town of Plattsburgh, where he can write and enjoy the beauty of the lake and the New York and Vermont mountains.
