Drawing on over two decades of expertise, Nazafarin serves as a chemical engineer, specializing in oil, gas and mineral resource engineering. Prior to embarking on her professional journey, she pursued an education at the Technical University of Denmark, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering and, subsequently, a Master of Science in chemical engineering. For her thesis, she worked on the diffusion and dispersion of gas in liquid in porous media, which was a collaborative project between the Technical University of Denmark and the Imperial College of London.
She continued her academic efforts by going to law school in California, earning a Juris Doctor, passing the notoriously difficult California Bar exam, and becoming a member of the California Bar Association. As a commitment to her field, Nazafarin has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the Society of Petroleum Engineering (SPE), the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA), the California Lawyers Association (CLA), and the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA).
Nazafarin began her career as a junior chemical engineer at Kruger Systems AS in Copenhagen, Denmark, and subsequently served as a reservoir engineer at Troy Petroleum Consulting Company in Winsor, United Kingdom. She continued her profession as an international sales engineer and business developer at Area 51 ESG. Subsequently, she garnered expertise as a petroleum engineer for the division of oil and gas at the Department of Conservation, and she has built a prolific career as a mineral resources engineer with the California State Lands Commission. In this capacity, Nazafarin is responsible for coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies to manage oil and gas leasing, executing the Commission's policies, attempting to protect state resources, monitoring drilling activities, working with in-house lawyers and handling projects, contracts and assignments. Additionally, she is working to establish herself as a private practice attorney, pursuing trust and estate planning law, including offering pro bono legal services to provide assistance to those who need it the most.
Nazafarin's drive to pursue her vocational path derived from her father who was an agricultural engineer and legal advisor for agriculture disputes. Additionally, she was motivated to educate herself and succeed in the oil and gas field, which has primarily been a male-dominated industry.
