He is the founder and chief executive officer of Maricopa Pantry, an organization he established in 2004 upon concluding a nearly 30-year association with UPS Freight as a truck driver. Mr. Shoaf is passionate about serving his rural community, particularly in challenging economic times. During its humble beginnings, Maricopa Pantry accepted donations from generous friends and colleagues; however, it has evolved into an established and impactful food pantry that is now incorporated with the state of Arizona.
Mr. Shoaf considers serving the community and families well-known to him through Maricopa Pantry to be the highlight of his professional life. He is proud of the company's performance in 2021 when it acquired more than three million pounds of food for distribution. Mr. Shoaf has been recognized with several commendations throughout his career, including the Volunteer of the Year Award on four occasions and the Citizen of the Year Award two times. He also achieved several honors related to the 501(c)(3) of the Year Award. Moreover, a documentary narrating his efforts, titled "Still Standing – Copa Central Command," was nominated for a short film award.
Looking to the future, Mr. Shoaf plans to continue living with purpose and relying on his faith. His vision includes growing the food pantry beyond state borders to extend the company's humanitarian reach. He aims to continue partnering with other local food banks and plans to build a warehouse through which he can provide additional services, such as clothing and counseling sessions. Mr. Shoaf also intends to persist as a mentor to help people take personal responsibility for their lives and work toward changing their futures.
