Deeply invested in her community and advocacy, Dr. Nicholson is graduate of Leadership Tuscaloosa, Emerge Alabama, the Parent Teacher Leadership Academy, TCSS U and a 2022 recipient of the S.H.A.R.P Award by Empowering Women Locally. She is a member of several organizations including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Jack and Jill of America Inc., and is recognized as a founding chapter director and mentor for the Younger Women's Task Force of Tuscaloosa.
Among other involvements to her credit, Dr. Nicholson was the visionary behind online platforms All Rize, which financially supports scholarships for first generation college students in Alabama, and the Cultured Heart Connection, an online health education platform that promotes culturally responsive cardiovascular health education for minority women.
Highly educated, Dr. Nicholson received an Associate in Applied Science followed by a Bachelor of Science in psychology at the University of West Alabama, a Master of Science in health care management at Troy University, and a Doctor of Public Health in health management and policy at Samford University. Dr. Nicholson also holds certifications in leadership, practice facilitation and has served as a community resource specialist for the last 13 years.
In support of her career, Dr. Nicholson is an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Public Health Association, the Doctor of Public Health Coalition, and the Society for Health Communication. Furthermore, she maintains her affiliation with numerous other professional organizations, such as Alabama Women in Business, the National Notary Association, and has previously served on the board of directors for the Case Management Society of America and Arts 'n Autism.
Recognizing her achievements, Dr. Nicholson was named among the 75 Black Health Care Leaders to Know by Becker's Healthcare/Hospital Review in 2022, within the Forty Under 40 List in Rural Leader Magazine in 2021, and as a Tuscaloosa News' 40 Under Forty Business Professional in 2019. As a reviewer for the American Public Health Association and Kaiser Permanente Community Health Leadership program, she is a thought leader and contributing author for published work in Alabama Living Magazine, the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine and PLOS ONE. Dr. Nicholson also was recently nominated for the 2022 International Association of Women Inspirational Influencer Award.
