Prior to her retirement, she served as the curriculum director and a staff developer at Rossford Public Schools from 1998 until 2011. Over the course of her career, Dr. Hillison also specialized in grant writing and assisting and educating new teachers in the field.

Before embarking on her vocational journey, Dr. Hillison pursued a formal education at Northern Illinois University. Outside of her primary vocation, Dr. Hillison is fond of gardening, sewing and genealogy; she is also active as a member and officer of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Dr. Hillison aspired to become an educator from an early age, and so she naturally gravitated toward a career in education.
