LYNCHBURG, VA, September 07, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John T. Leftwich, Jr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After fostering more than 30 years in a successful career in the field of geology, Dr. Leftwich retired from his role as a geologist with Halliburton in 2016. Previously, he gained valuable expertise in the industry in similar positions with Shell Offshore, Inc., Meridian, Exxon and the U.S. Geological Survey. Furthermore, Dr. Leftwich served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Navy and the Naval Reserve.

Over the years, Dr. Leftwich lent his expertise in academia as a faculty member at Old Dominion University and Pennsylvania State University, and as a speaker for the Geological Society of America. Throughout the course of his career, he has been involved in a wide range of important projects, including Shell's "Nakika Project." While working for Halliburton, he also had the opportunity to travel all over the world to such countries as Russia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, France, Colombia, Ecuador, Malaysia and China.

An expert in his field, Dr. Leftwich completed coursework in biology at Virginia State University before receiving a Bachelor of Science in geology from the same institution in 1969. Subsequently, he received a master's degree in geology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1973, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in structural geology from Pennsylvania State University in 1992. In addition to earning the Bromery Award through the Geological Society of America, he was the first graduate of the geology department at Virginia State University. In his acceptance speech at the Geological Society of America, he gave the advice, "...in addition to your technical excellence, you must also remember that there is nothing more valuable than your integrity and your developing good values, such as appreciation and respect for others. It is more important and a much higher ideal to be concerned about the welfare of others than about yourself." Looking toward the future, Dr. Leftwich intends to enjoy his retirement.
