Keila La'Rae Marlin, MPH, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Ms. Marlin has found success as a health manager at Mecklenburg County Health Department overseeing the Community Health Worker Initiative.

    CHARLOTTE, NC, September 20, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Keila La'Rae Marlin, MPH, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 10 years of experience to her credit in public health and healthcare, Ms. Marlin has found success as a health manager at Mecklenburg County Health Department overseeing the Community Health Worker Initiative. Since 2019, she has focused her efforts on engaging health systems, community-based organizations, and safety-net health clinics on key strategies to advance health equity. Currently, she leads and implements innovative policy and systems-level change strategies to improve and strengthen organizational effectiveness.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Marlin began her career as a certified pharmacy technician and certified nursing assistant for various organizations serving the Charlotte-Metro and Piedmont Triad regions of North Carolina from 2009 to 2013. She subsequently became a certified nursing assistant with Novant Health and was promoted to a medication listing assistant in 2014. While working at Novant, she served as a certified pharmacy technician from 2016 to 2019 until becoming a program coordinator for Rosedale Assistance and Opportunities, Inc. in 2019. While obtaining her second degree, she simultaneously worked as a graduate student researcher for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 2017 to 2019. Following this period, Ms. Marlin acquired a role with RAO Community Health as a community-clinical linkages program manager in 2019 and was subsequently appointed to lead a regional influenza immunization project in 2020.

Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Marlin earned a Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry from Wingate University in 2012. To further her expertise in the field, she attained a Master of Public Health in community health practice from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2018. Well qualified in her field, she holds numerous professional certifications in public health, including HIV counseling and contact training for COVID-19. She is also trained as a 200-hour yoga instructor.

Due to her wide range of knowledge, Ms. Marlin has contributed her own research to the public health industry. She authored "How COVID-19 Made Community Health Workers Essential," which was published in Medical Professionals Charlotte magazine in 2020. She also serves as the corresponding author of a peer-reviewed article entitled "Does Age Affect the Association between Race/Ethnicity and HPV Screening: A Retrospective Cohort Study of United States Women" published in Journal of Health Disparities Research and Practice in 2019.

Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Ms. Marlin serves in several capacities for national, regional, and local collaborative efforts in community health. Most recently, she founded a local coalition entitled "QC Community Connect Coalition" to further advance professional development and advocacy in community health leaders. She had also previously been an adviser for the strategic planning committee for MedLink of Mecklenburg and lent her expertise as a scholarship reviewer for The HIV League between 2019 and 2020.

To commemorate her accomplishments, Ms. Marlin was inducted into the University of North Carolina at Charlotte's graduate chapter of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health in 2020. She was also inducted into the Wingate University undergraduate chapter of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society in 2010.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Marlin plans to open her own consultancy firm, which will focus on strategic planning and policy development. Her goal is to serve as a director or adjunct professor, enabling her to help other organizations create more equitable policies that are not only beneficial for themselves but for the communities they serve. As part of this goal, she is pursuing a Doctor of Public Health in health policy, administration and leadership at East Carolina University.
