Drawing on over a decade of expertise, Mr. Tupper specializes in gas distribution and engineering. He began his professional journey working as a gas distribution engineer at National Grid from 2012 to 2015. Since 2015, he has built a prolific career serving in various leadership roles at National Grid, including as an engineering manager and, subsequently, as a director in various engineering groups. In this capacity, Mr. Tupper is responsible for the safe delivery of natural gas to the state of Massachusetts, overseeing 40-50 engineers and engineering managers, and attending industry conferences.
Prior to embarking on his career path, Mr. Tupper pursued an education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 2006, a Master of Science in civil engineering in 2008, and a Master of Business Administration in 2016. As a commitment to his field, he has been certified as a project management professional and a professional engineer.
Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Mr. Tupper has volunteered for various STEM-driven activities, including the Future City Competition, which were sponsored by the Boston Society of Civil Engineers. Additionally, he has contributed to "Rebuilding Together" which is a home improvement program aimed at improving the safety and health of the homes of families in need.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Tupper has published several scholarly articles in the Boston Society of Civil Engineers News Section, including "Cast Iron Encroachment in the Natural Gas Industry," "Increasing the Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Natural Gas Pipe" and "Project Organizational Structure in Energy Infrastructure Development." Moreover, he contributed to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers publication as the co-author of "Evaluation and Acceptability Criteria for Pneumatic Pressure Tests" and the American Society of Civil Engineers publication as the co-author of "Innovative Pipeline Inspection Technologies Used in the Assessment of Cape Cod Bridges."
Well regarded for his contributions to the field, Mr. Tupper has been acknowledged as one of the Top Young Professionals by Engineering News-Record of New England in 2021. Among his professional accomplishments, he is most proud of his nomination for the Top Young Professional accolade, and of his position as a technical secretary on the National Grid Engineering Assurance Committee where he supported the chief gas engineer in the creation and advancement of initiatives aimed at developing junior engineers and increasing awareness of engineering throughout the utility industry. He is also gratified to be leaving his mark on the industry with his published work in technical engineering.
Mr. Tupper attributes much of his success to his education and experience.
